Colorado Springs has recently been ranked number twelve in the most pet-friendly cities in the United States. And it is no wonder why: There are tons of fun, relatively low-cost activities for dogs and dog owners to explore! From quality restaurants that allow dogs on their premises to awesome hiking, the Springs has it all.

At Ponderosa Veterinary Clinic, one topic we are passionate about is pet safety, however, another equally important topic we are passionate about is pet wellness. One important aspect of pet wellness is finding time to make special memories with your furry friend. Today, we are giving you our top places to take your dog in Colorado Springs for a great time. Read through the entire post to find a map of these amazing locations.

1) Colorado Jeep Tour

What better way to make awesome memories with your dog than by going off-roading in a Jeep? In the Colorado Jeep Tour, you and your dog will spend the day taking in breathtaking sites of the Royal Gorge, Red Canyon, and Cripple Creek all while learning about its rich history. While small dogs that can fit on your lap are free of charge, bigger dogs will be counted as children on your ride. What are you waiting for? Book your tour today and enjoy some of the most beautiful trails in southern / central Colorado!

2) Pike’s Peak — America’s Mountain

If you prefer to be in the driver’s seat, we understand. A drive up Pike’s Peak will surely satisfy you and your dog’s urge to explore. On the way up the 14,000 foot tall mountain, both you and your dog will enjoy all the fresh air and awesome views as you climb higher and higher. At the top you and your pup can enjoy overlooking the entire Colorado Springs region. Be sure to bring lots of water and snacks for your trip up America’s Mountain, as elevation changes can cause you and your dog to be dehydrated.

3) Stratton Open Space

Finding a quiet “beach” to enjoy in Colorado can be a difficult –if not impossible task. But Stratton Open Space is certainly the best Colorado Springs has to offer. It is perfect for many dog owners looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Located adjacent to North Cheyenne Mountain Canyon, you and your pup will take a short hike hike through the woods to find a beautiful, secluded space with a reservoir.  Be sure to bring a lounge chair and a book and expect to watch your dog swim in the water. It is the best quick get-away for dog owners we know about!

4) Manitou Cliff Dwelling Museum

The views of the Manitou Cliff Dwellings are simply picturesque. Touch, feel, and breathe Native American history as you and your pup explore the fascinating architecture of the Anasazi. This landmark has been well preserved through the ages for our sake — might as well enjoy all that culture with your dog! The museum opened in 1907, but it was not until recently that it has become one of the best dog-friendly places to see in Colorado Springs. There is enough here to satisfy everyone’s curiosity, even your dog’s.

5) Peterson Air and Space Museum

One hidden gem of Colorado Springs is the Peterson Air and Space Museum, which showcases the history of aviation technology. Before walking on museum grounds, you and your dog will meet their spokes-dog, Matilda, who encourages dog owners to bring their furry friends along. The open space there is wide and beautiful. If the weather permits, we suggest packing a picnic and letting your dog run around the premises.  The best part of it all? Admissions are totally free.

6) Promenade Shops at Briargate

The Promenade Shops at Briargate understands that Colorado Springs is changing into one of the finest pet-friendly cities in the nation. The Gazette has voted the shopping center “the best place to shop with your pet.” There are water bowls and disposable bins for dogs scattered throughout the shopping center in addition to 40 businesses that openly welcome pets into their store. Just be sure to look for the sticker on the front of the building that says “pet’s welcome”.

7) BamPaws Stay and Play

If all else fails, and you need to part ways with your pup for an afternoon or a weekend, Bam Paws has got you covered. They offer half day and overnight prices in addition to grooming, and bathing, services. Just imagine, when you come back from doing errands around town, your pup is freshly groomed and so excited to see you.
