Places To Adopt A Pet

Choosing to add to your family and adopt a pet is an exciting time! One of the first steps in the adoption process is deciding where you want to go to adopt your pet. There are many nonprofit organizations in Colorado Springs that are trying to house the pets in their care. Some of the few places where you can go to adopt a pet include:

  1. National Mill Dog Rescue
    • Established in 2007, the National Mill Dog Rescue is on a mission to end the use of puppy mills. Over the years, this rescue center has helped rehabilitate and rehome discarded breeding dogs while educating the community about the dog breeding industry.  If you want to help the NMDR, but aren’t ready to adopt a dog, you can also sign up to become a foster home!
  2. Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region
    • The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is one of the largest animal welfare organizations in southern Colorado. The HSPPR has a variety of pets available for adoption, including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, fish and rabbits.
  3. Colorado Animal Rescue
    • The Colorado Animal Rescue is ready to pair you with a furry friend that’s perfect for your home! This center has dogs, cats and guinea pigs ready to be adopted. The Colorado Animal Rescue also offers services such as microchipping, dog training and animal surrender services.
  4. Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue
    • So far, Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue has found over 6,000 dogs their forever homes. If you’re more of a cat person, RMPR also has cats at the center that are available for adoption!
  5. El Paso County Canine Rescue
    • Another great shelter to go to to find your next pet is El Paso County Canine Rescue! This rescue center rescues dogs from high-kill shelters located in Texas, Kansas and New Mexico. You can adopt a dog or cat from the rescue, as well as sign up for the foster program!
