General Cat FAQ
In general, there are two different types of pet insurance. Wellness insurance is also known as routine coverage or accidental coverage.
Wellness Or Routine Coverage:
Most of the time, a routine plan will cover the wellness of your animal. This can include their vaccinations, dental work, routine tests, and sometimes even their shots. It is effectively a preventative care plan. It will most likely not have a deductible and will not cover illness or accidents. This plan type generally will cost nearly the same as if you were to pay for the services directly through your vet as they occur.
Accidental Coverage:
On the other hand, an accidental coverage plan will protect your animal from accidental injury or. This plan can cover things like physical injuries, accidental ingestions, foreign objects, etc. Additionally, you may also be able to purchase an accidental plan that includes illness coverage, this would cover your cat’s accidental needs as well as any unforeseen illness.
At Ponderosa Veterinary Clinic we recommend obtaining accidental insurance for your cat since it can protect them in the event of an accident as well as you financially. If your cat were to become accidentally ill or be injured you would be covered and your cat could be saved. Unfortunately, cat and dog procedures can be costly and not everyone can afford to pay for them out of pocket.

Deciding to give up your cat can be one of the hardest things to decide, however, if the circumstances are not ideal for the cat it may be the best choice. The wellbeing of you and your cat are the most important factors to consider. Cats can be demanding and require attention, training, and care. Keeping them healthy active and cleaning up their messes can seem like a chore. We are also all so busy and if we can not properly take care of our cats then we should seek a better home for them.
Prior to bringing a new cat home consider the commitment that you are making. Cats require attention to be happy and healthy. They will need to be trained and have a specific area in your home that they can relieve themselves. Cats do not often come pre-trained as kittens and some breeds are prone to different types of bad habits. At the end of the day, we want you and your new kitten to be happy.
If you have a new cat or kitten in your home or you are preparing for a new cat keep in mind these things to prepare for them.
